STEM Scholarships
Our Work | Programme Initiatives | STEM Scholarships
We have an unshakeable belief in our learners and their ability to play a valuable role in the world.
By funding scholarships through the Platanos Foundation, we remove barriers for talented learners from under-represented groups to develop their talent.
By supporting our work, you can help remove financial obstacles, level up opportunities and increase diversity in STEM.
We offer three types of scholarships:
- Emerging Talent – The earlier we recognise and encourage a child’s abilities, the more we can raise their aspiration. This scholarship is for pupils aged 5 to 16 with a marked aptitude for STEM.
- Developing Talent – This scholarship supports talented young people aged 16 to 18 to deepen their knowledge of a STEM subject. Funds pay for summer programmes, internships, apprenticeships, visits to industry and any other opportunities to enrich their learning and develop confidence.
- Advancing Talent – With this scholarship, young people can master a STEM subject beyond school or college, whether through a recognised, accredited course or specialist training.
HOW IT WORKS
- Scholarships are offered to pupils from a Platanos Trust school with an aptitude for STEM.
- Pupils submit application forms and attend interviews.
- For Advancing Talent Scholarships, we need to assess household income, academic performance and a letter confirming a place at a UK university or specialist training institute.
- Pupils share their progress with donors.
